5th & 6th Grade English Language Arts and ESL

Howdy, this is my sixth year at East Bernard ISD and I am blessed to be a part of this excellent district.  I graduated from Wharton High School and Baylor University.  Thereafter, I served nearly twenty-one years active duty as a US Marine.  Upon retirement from the US Marine Corps I taught eleven years at O'Connor HS in Helotes, TX before coming to East Bernard. My wonderful wife of 28 years, Mrs. Patricia Rodriguez, is also a member of the EB Jr. High Staff.  We have two daughters both of whom are Texas Aggie Engineers.  I look forward to providing extraordinary instruction to our East Bernard students, and mentoring them as well.

YEAR AT A GLANCE: Daily Grades: Grammar exercises and quizzes; daily writings; rough drafts of formal essays; extended constructed responses (ECR). Daily grades are 60%. Major Grades: Spelling and vocabulary tests (one every 3 weeks, 9 words); a variety of formal essays (1-2 every cycle), these include an argumentative essay, a descriptive essay, a process/transition essay, narrative essay, and a compare/contrast essay. Major grades are 40%. In the spring semester, Greek and Latin roots will be covered, and after STAAR testing a research paper will be completed.

Tutoring Times:  Everyday will be available from 7:15 - 7:40, Lunch time, or 3:30 - 3:45.  The student or parent will coordinate with me.
