Cooking with Science Challenge from 2020-2021

WIT OPPORTUNITY - Cool Project

Here is your opportunity to experience the Science of Cooking.  We have purchased various kitchen gadgets for you to use in a cooking demonstration.  This is an opportunity to have some fun in the kitchen with other WIT members and learn about the science of cooking, not to mention getting to eat some tasty treats.

Here are the rules:

  • Choose a recipe in which you can use one of the kitchen utensils we have purchased. (see file below)
  • Come to us to pick up the kitchen utensils and go over your plan. You must have your recipe stapled to the form.
  • Create the cooking video by yourself or with another person (preferable a WIT member)

Set up for video:

  • Use your smart phone to take the video. Make sure the camera is turned long ways (landscape) when taking the video.    Mrs. Riley can supply you with a phone tripod.
  • Make sure you have all the ingredients and measuring devices needed for the recipe set out ready to go.
  • Check the background and the area in which you will be making your video. Remove items that be inappropriate for a school video.
  • Do a test video (maybe 15 seconds) to make sure the lighting and sound are good.
  • Understand others may see this video. Be professional and do a good job.

REQUIRED FOR THE VIDEO:

  • Clearly tell us what you are cooking. USING YOUR MOUTH & YOUR VOICE.
  • Go thru the steps slowly telling us the ingredient being added & the measurement of the ingredient being used.
  • Use the kitchen utensils we have supplied for you.
  • Video some of the scenes more than once & from different angles.
  • Show us the completed dish & video you or someone tasting it.
  • *** In your video you must supply us with 3 science facts that pertain to your particular recipe*** Example:  Tell us the boiling point of water.  What is the job of baking soda in cookies?  What ingredient can be used to help tenderize meat & how does that works.
  • See Mrs. Riley or a video student to help edit the video if needed.
  • You can fast forward thru some of the video, but not more than 30 seconds.
  • Your video is expected to last at least 3 minutes, but hopefully a little longer. You are not making this for TicTok, you are making this for WIT!

I have read & understand these requirements for the video: ______________________________________

Please use your smart phone to make the video (turn in landscape -sideways).  We may have a camera for you to use if you do not have a phone.
